Draft State Biosecurity Strategy

Draft State Biosecurity Strategy - we invite you to comment ... more.

No Species Loss - A Nature Conservation Strategy for South Australia 2007-2017

No Species Loss - A Nature Conservation Startegy for South Australia was released by the Minister for Environment and Conservation on 10 July 2007. No Species Loss is the first statewide nature conservation strategy for South Australia. As its name suggests, the aim of the No Species Loss Strategy is to lose no more species in South Australia, whether they be on land, in rivers, creeks, lakes and estuaries or the sea. No Species Loss defines what is required within the next ten years to protect the State's wide array of ecosystems - the native plants and animals, and the environments in which they live. The Strategy also recognises that some of the damage we have done to our ecosystems may take hundreds of years to repair. Please see the Nature Conservation Strategy web page for further information

River Murray Forest

The River Murray Forest (RMF) project is a large-scale habitat establishment and biosequestration initiative. The project aims to establish an additional 2.5 million trees in the River Murray corridor and northern Murray Mallee environments of South Australia, and in doing so provide long-term biodiversity benefits, carbon sequestration benefits and diversification potential.

NatureMaps - Environmental interactive online mapping

NatureMaps is the South Australian Department for Environment and Heritage's public web based mapping site. NatureMaps improves access for the wider community and in particular the Natural Resource Management (NRM) community to environmental information resources.

NatureLinks:

There is increasing recognition that biodiversity conservation requires strategic planning and actions at large scales and over extended timeframes. In 2002, the South Australian Government committed itself to a landscape-scale approach to biodiversity conservation by supporting the WildCountry philosophy, promoted by the Wilderness Society.

NatureLinks: Implementing the WildCountry philosophy in South Australia (250Kb PDF) provides a bold vision for biodiversity conservation. It is both a philosophical and a practical approach to biodiversity conservation and ecologically sustainable development in South Australia.
